My First Prophesy
I was 20 years old and I had been a Christian for about 6 months. At this time I had made many friends from all sorts of churches across the town. There was a youth event that gathered young people from my town and the surrounding towns. This was a great place to meet people and served as a great tool for connecting people from different communities and expressions of church.
During this season of my life I had becoming increasing interested in how the prophetic worked. I was often blown away be seeing and hearing people give words of knowledge and prophecy to people, it was always a huge encouragement to them and I wanted to be a part of that.
It was a beautiful summer day and I had heard that some of my friends were heading to a baptism at a church on the other side of town. I loved baptisms, and I still do. People dying to the old way of life and coming into an entirely new life in Jesus, what is worth celebrating more?
I entered the church and sat at the back of the room as I wasn’t know by very many people there and I was alway notoriously late. Before the baptisms began the Pastor of the church invited a couple of other from the congregation to come up and prophesy over the people being baptised. I felt encouragement from God to test the gift of prophesy I believe He was calling my into. So I did. As the each person went into the water to be baptised God spoke simple sentences in my mind, “She is a mother to many and I will gather my children around her”. Then one of the people prophesying at the front prophesied word for word the same prophesy. This happened for all 4 people being baptised. And I mean word for word the same. Needless to say this surprised me! But at the same time gave me a huge sense of confidence that God was calling me to give words of knowledge and prophesies for those around me.
If there is one thing that I learnt from that early experience it is that God speaks clearly to those that seek Him. If we listen we will hear him and he will tell us amazing and beautiful things for the world around us.
