What is God Like?

LOOK AT JESUS

Jesus said in the Bible that if you saw Him you had seen God. A bold statement! Jesus is the perfect example of what God is like. The says that the very nature and essence of God was in Jesus and that Jesus was entirely surrendered to following that nature and letting that nature lead.

It’s kind of crazy but the Bible says that Jesus never said anything unless he heard God saying it first and never did anything unless he saw (in His mind) God doing it first. That’s pretty intense! Not a single word apart from what God was saying and not a single action without being guided to do it. This is why it is a true statement to say that Jesus is the perfect and true representation of the nature of God.

The Bible describes God as:

Everywhere

God doesn’t live in a particular place, separate from his creation, but is everywhere in it and through it. The scriptures say “He is in all and through all”.

Absolutely powerful

Even though the world has evil things in it, God can and will and does bring about justice.

Knowing everything

Outside of our time constrains and limitations God sees and knows all.

Beyond space and time

God is eternal and without end and has no need to rely on anything else in order to exist and sustain Himself.

Good

Even when circumstances look terrible, goodness will have the upper hand.

Holy

God is set apart in awesome perfection, but he is also utterly loving.

Utterly loving

Although you would expect God to be unapproachable because of his holiness, he is immensely tender toward human beings.  Knowing him is an entirely wonderful experience, bringing a sense of being loved, blessed and sustained through life.

Way above gender and language

However you try to describe God (including using the words he or she), the truth is even greater.

One

There is only one God, although he can be encountered in three different ways – Father, Son and Spirit.

WHAT THE BIBLE SAYS

An extract from the Bible:
"The God who made the world and everything in it is the owner and ruler of the spiritual and the earthly and does not live in temples built by people. And he is not served by human hands, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all life and breath and everything else…  God did this so that [humans] would seek him and perhaps reach out for him and find him, though he is not far from each one of us.

Acts 17:24-27
